CSP-CRRC Course "Statistics and Regression for Policy Research"

On January 16-25, 2007 Counterpart International's Civil Society Project (CSP) and the Caucasus Research Resource Center (CRRC)/Azerbaijan organized a training course "Statistics and Regression for Policy Research." The course was designed and conducted by Dr. Doug Wissoker of the Urban Institute, Washington, DC in collaboration with the staff of CSP and CRRC. This workshop aimed to equip Azerbaijani government and NGO sector executives and analysts engaged in policy research and analysis with essential tools and techniques in statistics and regression.

Twenty three individuals from government institutions and leading non-governmental policy research organizations participated in the course conducted at Khazar University's City Campus. During the first week, participants applied basic statistical tests to policy issues in Azerbaijan using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The second week focused on the use of regression analysis techniques in policy research. The exercises employed during the course were primarily based on CRRC's Data Initiative, a unique household survey conducted annually among more than 7000 households throughout the South Caucasus. Successful participants received certificates of participation from USAID, CSP and CRRC.
