The Institute of Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ISEEES) at the University of California, Berkeley (UCB), in collaboration with the Center for Advanced Study and Education (CASE) at the European Humanities University (EHU) and the Caucasus Research Resource Centers (CRRC), is soliciting proposals from scholars in the social sciences and history from Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia to participate in a two-week workshop at UCB from April 1 to April 14, 2012. The workshop is funded by a generous grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
A total of four scholars (“Carnegie Fellows”) from the South Caucasus will be brought to UCB under the program for an intensive review of the key literature, theoretical approaches, and methods employed in a particular field of scholarship (“field theme”). Each Carnegie Fellow will work with a paired UCB faculty member and graduate student with knowledge of the Carnegie Fellow’s field theme to develop undergraduate and graduate syllabi and teaching materials, explore innovative teaching and research techniques and technologies, and prepare a field survey (with a literature review). The language of the workshop will be English.
Airfare, hotel, and meal expenses will be paid for by ISEEES. In addition, ISEEES will either pay for or reimburse each Carnegie Scholar for up to $600 in expenses relating to purchasing, copying, and posting teaching materials. ISEEES will provide letters of invitation, but each Carnegie Fellow will be responsible for obtaining and paying for a U.S. visa.
Who is eligible to participate?
• Citizens of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia
• Scholars who hold the equivalent of a Ph.D.
• Scholars who have a level of proficiency in written and spoken English that is sufficient to conduct independent research and engage in scholarly debate.

Application forms can be found at http://iseees.berkeley.edu/case-crrc#app. The website also has a detailed description of the purpose and design of the workshop.Applicants should be sure to read the entire Program Description carefully to ensure that they are familiar with the design and requirements of the program.
• A statement of purpose not exceeding 3 pages indicating the applicant’s proposed field theme and the course syllabus or syllabi that the applicant will develop while at Berkeley.
• A sample of scholarly research in English not exceeding five pages.
• A full Curriculum Vitae including a list of publications.

Social responsibility in Azerbaijan

Overview: What is the extent of small and medium enterprise (SME) social responsibility in Azerbaijan? Do they drive the country’s modernization and economic development or prefer to side with more traditional ways of doing business? These and other important issues are studied in the in-depth survey conducted by the author. Based on the survey of the Azerbaijani SME, the research demonstrates that the local entrepreneurs demonstrate low rates of social participation.
Lecturer Bio: Turkhan Sadigov holds MA in International Affairs from the University of South Carolina, 2009. He was an Edmund Muskie Graduate fellow (2007-2009). In 2003-04 he undertook a graduate course at the Central European University (Budapest, Hungary). His current research focuses on factors influencing social choices of wide population strata in the post-Soviet region. Special consideration is given to the issues of population initiated corruption and socio-political modernization. Mr. Sadigov has taught widely in Azerbaijan (Academy of Public Administration, Baku State University). He also conducted a range of qualitative and quantitative researches for various Azerbaijani and international agencies. Mr. Sadigov is currently an independent consultant.
Language: The lecture will be conducted in English.

Training: Information about data entry– Emin Rustamov (AZ).
Time: 11:00-17:00, including break
Location: CRRC-Azerbaijan, Khazar University, 122 Bashir Safaroglu Street, Baku, 23th room
Overview: Training goal is give more information about data entry. Successful participants will be recruited by CRRC-Azerbaijan to work part time for the program Caucasus Barometer (Data Initiative). Content of the training are basics of CSPro, entering data exercise using the CB 2011 platform, understanding types of errors.
Language: The training will be conducted in Azerbaijani.
Registration: Participants must have a basic understanding of IT and understand how survey data works. Due to the limited number of seats, interested individuals need to send their CVs and short motivation letters to Ms. Khayala Mustafayeva at khayala.mustafayeva@crrccenters.org before October 11th, 2011.
